After a long days driving we decided to check in to the nearest campsite and set up for the night. Following the signs we turned off from highway 1 and headed east on a small road. After what seemed like an eternity, perhaps an hour or so we finally made it to camp. The site was in the middle of nowhere, with only farmland, kangaroos and forest surrounding it.
As we drove in we could see that many of the campsites inhabitants were there for the long haul. Most of the caravans were permanent, with add-ons, scrappy gardens and Anderson shelter style roofing. The family next door consisted of a heavily pregnant (or just really obese) mother, father and about ten children who were all sporting mullets. Quality!
The night was mainly uneventful, with only the parrots to keep us entertained as they swarmed in their thousands to roost. We soon sought shelter in the van as the heavens opened for a night of torrential rain, which meant we all had a bit of a restless sleep.
